Excuse me miss, What’s your name? I thought my sneaker game was on point until I seen Angel Yee’s collection. The Power 105.1 NYC radio personality caught up with PYNK magazine and shows her $70,000 shoe collection. Also, Yee talked about her expensive shoe game, her favorite designers, and respecting La La’s shoe game. Below are some excerpts:
How much is your shoe collection worth?
My whole entire collection? I could probably buy a house. I would say it’s probably worth about $70,000.
What is your most expensive shoe? Was it a gift or self-splurge?
No one ever really buys me shoes — I buy them myself. I think the most expensive pair I have are these thigh-high Louboutin boots. They were like $2,500.

Do you still get the rush that you got when you purchased your first pair of high-end shoes?
I get it more [now] than I did back then because I don’t think my taste was on point yet. When you’re younger, the stuff you like is gaudier. I’m a little more disciplined now.
What are some of your favorite shoe designers?
Of course, everyone likes Louboutin. I like Camilla Skovgaard. I also like YSL. I like Brian Atwood sometimes. I love Miu Miu shoes.
Which celeb’s shoe game do you respect the most?
Definitely LaLa. I like her a lot.
If you’re a struggling college graduated like myself, then most likely you are in debt and are wondering how in the heck you are going to pay your student loans, credit card bills, etc. Trust me, I know that feeling. I am still in debt without a stable job. I make money here and there from blogging, writing for various publications and covering industry events. Don’t think we’re alone. New York’s Power 105 FM’s “The Breakfast Club,” co-host Angela Yee been through our situation and she’s sharing her story. A graduated of Wesleyan University, she majored in English and held numerous media-related positions—ranging from corporate consulting to artist management—before finding her niche as a media personality. But along with the public notoriety came expensive shopping habits that landed Yee nearly $30,000 in debt. Much wiser about her finances; the media maven shares with BlackEnterprise.com how she beat the credit card crunch and learned to better manage her money. Read some excerpts below:
You’ve had great success in your first year at Power 105, but came from a management and consulting background. What lessons did you learn in switching career paths?
I’ve quit a job one time because I was going to make more money somewhere else and I was miserable [at the new job]. I really did like the job I quit, but I was looking at it like, “Well, I’m going to go here and make more money.” Sometimes, in the long run, it’s best to make less money, which is what I did when I left working at a clothing line to go work at Shade 45. I wasn’t happy where I was working and I took a crazy $30K pay cut to start all over at Sirius where I made way less.
What impact did that pay cut have on your quality of life?
That’s probably where the debt started from, having so many bills that I had to pay. I worked the first month without getting paid because it was a probation period to see if it was going to work because I had never done radio [at the time], so they definitely took advantage of me. It was a struggle for me for so long but the next year I got a $20K raise and a bonus and I got a raise every year afterwards. I think sometimes you do have to go backwards to get further in the big picture. Now I make more than double what I made at Sirius.

Is that when you started to manage your money better?
If I didn’t get this job at Power 105 I would still be in debt. Being in debt is a depressing thing. Right now it’s amazing to me that I can go out and buy what I want and still be able to save and now I’m saving to buy a house. That’s a realistic thing for me, before it wasn’t even something I could fathom happening. I have a good base going and I feel good about it.
How bad did it get before you got your finances back on track?
The most I ever owed was about $30,000 in credit card debt. I’ve never been at a $0 [balance], but that was the most I ever owed. A lot of that was from being a manager and having to pay for rooms and flights. It was taking forever to get reimbursed and it definitely piles up.
What are some of the steps you took to get out of debt?
Usually they say you should pay off your most expensive bills first, but what I did was paid off the small bills first to get them out of the way. A lot of those were store cards because I have a Neiman Marcus card, I have a Saks card, I have a Bloomingdales card, etc… Those were just little bills, like a thousand dollars or so each and they had the highest interest rates. It made it easier for me to get those out of the way. I also have three American Express cards. After paying off the store cards, I paid off two of them first and then the one that had the highest balance was paid last, but I stopped using all of my cards and that was the only one I would use. So it was really only one bill I had to pay and that was the one with the lowest rate.
What are some of the things you do now to avoid getting back in the same situation?
As far as clothing, it took me a long time to get the hang of it, but now instead of buying something I’m only going to wear once I’ll borrow clothes and return them. You’re wearing it one time [for a public appearance], why would you want to buy something you can’t wear again because you’ve been photographed in it? If I wear something I’ll tweet about it so [the brand] gets some attention.
A lot of my other bills aren’t that bad, my rent isn’t too bad, my car payment isn’t too crazy—I lease a BMW 328ix and my payment is $520 monthly. I don’t even want to tell you what I pay for rent, because it’s so affordable. I’ve been living in the same apartment in [Brooklyn] for six years. My apartment is so spacious and comfortable, and once I could I really invested in getting nice pieces of furniture that were quality and would last.
What would be your biggest piece of advice for anyone struggling with debt?
It’s never too late to fix your financial situation, it’s never too late to fix your credit. My attitude has always been that there are certain things that I like and I know I want and I know I have to work hard if I want to be able to afford the things I enjoy and appreciate. I’m not saying it’s the right thing to do and everybody should feel that way but it’s always worked for me. I’ve always said, “Okay, you know what, I want this,” and there’s times I couldn’t get it and I always told myself, “I’m going to work as hard as I can to afford the things I want to afford,” and it’s always worked for me.
What would you say is your most important investment?
Your education is always your top investment. Your retirement plan is a great investment and something you don’t even miss and I’ve also been donating money to charity. I just did that recently. I donated to Prep for Prep, which is a program I was in when I was younger and I always wanted to donate. I do a lot of events for Dress for Success and that’s also a write-off. Anytime I can donate my time there’s a few things I do a couple times a month. It’s a write-off but it’s also a good thing to give back to your community.

Last weekend, the VH1 Divas aired live from Los Angeles. One of the biggest moments from the show was the Whitney Houston tribute which was performed by Jordin Sparks, Ledisi and Melanie Fiona. The ladies performance was soulful and up to par. They had everyone in attendance standing up as they performed “I Wanna Dance With Somebody”, “It’s Not Right But It’s Okay”, and “How Will I Know.” For her set, Melanie Fiona styled in Proenza Schuler and $1,995 Christian Louboutin Bandita Boots. The on-screen tension between Hot 97′s own K. FOXX and Power 105.1′s ANGELA YEE on VH1′s newest reality series, The Gossip Game is undeniable. The two radio personalities have been battling since the series premiered, and there doesn’t appear to be an end to their brewing differences in sight. Recently, I interviewed K. FOXX for Juicy magazine to get her stance on a number of things including rise from humble beginnings, how she managed to work her way through the male dominated radio industry and issues with her on-screen nemesis, ANGELA YEE.
Juicy: After doing radio in Miami for years, what brought you back to NYC?
KF: It’s not like I had to go seeking for it. It kind of came to me. Ebro called me up and said, ‘we have an opportunity for you to be on air for a week and then we will make a decision.’ I was like, ‘okay.’ It came to me at a time when I was really seeking something more in my career, and then I got the phone call.
Juicy: Angela Yee has said numerous times that the difference between you and her, what may be the reason for tension, is that she is an equal with the male co-hosts on her morning show, and claims you are not. How did you feel about those comments?
KF: I think she’s just trying to throw jabs at me. Me, Ciph and Rosenberg all add something to the show. I am the female on the show, I come out with different ideas. [Ciph and Rosenberg] come up with comedy skits and other things. [Angela's] show [Power 105’s ‘Breakfast Club’] is drier – it’s watered down. We’re more creative. We come up with skits, and we’re intellectual as well. As far as what she says, I think that’s all her insecurities showing.
Juicy: So then what is the biggest difference between you and Angela Yee?
KF: I am colorful, she’s black and white. I live my life in color. I dream in color, that’s actually the name of my organization for kids. There are so many colors in my life that make me who I am. You can tell by the way that I talk, dress, and how I carry myself. When you look at her, it’s like a statue, a very dry statue.
Juicy: Do you think Angela’s jealous of you and all your ‘color’?
KF: I have no idea.
Juicy: Are these the type of situations that make it harder being a female in the radio industry?
KF: I think that it is hard being in the radio industry period! But when you are a female, you have to work extra hard not only because it’s a boys club, but people are always going to test you. It’s more challenging, but I think I do a pretty good job at maneuvering past those things.
Juicy: What else can viewers expect from you this season on ”The Gossip Game”?
KF: I don’t want to come across as “the angry Black woman” that’s always defending myself. You’re going to learn more about K. Foxx separate from the radio. You’re going to know what my challenges are besides what I do on the radio. You’re going to see my everyday life, my everyday activities. I think it’s good for people to see different sides of me.

New York’s Power 105′s morning show co-host Angela Yee is classy, stylish, smart and beautiful. She also has a great personality! The Brooklyn-native graduated from Wesleyan University where she studied English and Marketing. Yee got her first start in the music industry by working at Wu-Tang Management. She then gravitated toward the radio industry and soon landed her own radio show on Eminem’s Shade 45 before joining Power 105′s ‘Breakfast Club‘. Because of the success of the ‘Breakfast Club‘ others doors opened for Yee including reality TV. She was one of the cast members on VH1′s Gossip Game. In a recent interview with Vibe Vixen, Yee talked about her career, dating life and reality TV. Below are some highlights:
Was reality TV cracked up to what you thought it would be?
I knew reality TV would be difficult after watching what some of my friends went through. People get to see your personality edited down at the network’s mercy, so it’s usually not an accurate description of who you are. And the reality is, with location releases and close friends, colleagues and family who don’t want to be on a show, it’s hard to depict your real life. On the positive side, it definitely makes you more visible which can award you better opportunities, if you behave yourself.
When it comes to your love life, do you see yourself ending up with someone who’s in your industry or completely outside of it?
It’s hard to tell. I’ve dated mostly guys who have corporate jobs and there’s always the issue of them thinking my job is easy. If you’re professional then your job should seem easy but the truth is that going out to events, hosting parties and getting up for work at 4 a.m. takes a toll. I don’t always have the energy to keep my schedule going, and it’s irritating when you date someone who makes snide comments like, ‘You get off work at 10 and sleep all day.’ I get off around noon usually and have some days that are packed with meetings and nighttime events. When I fall asleep, I crash. Dating someone in the industry is sometimes easier if they also have a flexible schedule, but you just have to keep your relationship your business because people will definitely want to weigh in.
How do you manage such an intense schedule and keep the energy flowing?
I feel best when I get to go running or hit the gym, but sometimes I just have no time. Every morning I drink green tea and try to eat fruits or other things that will keep my energy up. I stay away from caffeine. I’ve never even tried coffee. I’m scared that it will have me buzzing then I’ll come down from it. And whenever I have any down time I sleep sleep sleep. It’s orgasmic to me.
As a woman who is well-respected, regardless of any rumors that may come about, what advice would you give women just starting out in the industry now?
Be careful who you consider your friends and don’t take rumors too seriously. It happens to everyone, and if you’re going to harp on what people think or say about you, you may not be cut out for this. But fundamentally, make smart decisions. We all mess up, but only deal with guys who respect you and who you consider to be your friend.
What’s next for you after The Gossip Game?
I’m working on developing my own show, which will be fun and I’ll be in control of. My foundation is radio though. The Breakfast Club is now syndicated on the weekend in 46 markets and counting. I can sense that there are bigger things that will happen in radio as well.

Last night Wednesday (October 23), I visited my alma mater (Rutgers University, New Brunswick) for Kru & Krahn’s ‘Kru-Side Chat‘ with New York’s Power 105′s radio personality Angela Yee. The event took place inside of Kru & Krahn boutique on Hamilton Street in New Brunswick, NJ (Rutgers campus). The boutique is very trendy and girly. They carry clothing, shoes and accessories. Yee chatted about her successful radio career, doing reality television, music, fashion and much more. She also gave some career advice to the people who were in attendance.

This past Monday (December 16), New York’s Power 105.1’s ‘Breakfast Club’ host Angela Yee and fashion mogul Angela Simmons attended PR giant 135th Street Agency ‘Holiday Party’ at Arena in NYC. R&B singer Sevyn Streeter was also present. She performed a medley of her hits from her newly released Call Me Crazy, But and helped launch Strength of Nature LLC’s ‘Beautiful Texture Manageability System’.

Last night Wednesday (January 8), New York’s Power 105.1′s hosts Angela Yee and DJ Envy co-hosted the launch of Carmelo Anthony’s ‘Melo 10′s‘ sneakers launch at House of Hoops on 125th Street in Harlem, USA. The New York Knicks Small Forward made a special appearance and stayed for a Q&A.
The Breakfast Club will make their Revolt TV debut on March 3rd. The NYC-based morning show will be airing live on Revolt TV from 6am-9am.

This past weekend, New York’s Power 105.1′s ‘Breakfast Club‘ host Angela Yee kept the party going and celebrated her birthday bash at Couture Hollywood for ‘Scandal Saturdays‘. Yee’s co-host Charlemagne, media personality Rocsi Diaz, E!’s Terrence Jenkins, singers Sevyn Streeter and Mario, DJ Eque, comedian Donnell Rawlings and rapper Lil Twist were in attendance.
